Tame Your Sweet Tooth and Lose Weight
Weight loss is tough enough to accomplish, but what do you do when you have a raging sweet tooth the size of a lion? What should you do the next time you are out and someone offers you a sweet treat? If you indulge yourself and feed the beast, you’ll end up feeling guilty and depressed because you gave in again. So what are some ways to tame your sweet tooth and lose weight?
Try not to go more than 3-4 hours without eating
A sweet tooth is caused when the body’s blood sugar drops. This occurs within a few hours of your last meal. Ever notice how you get a sweet tooth just a few hours after eating lunch or after dinner in the evening? That’s the body’s way of telling you it needs some more fuel to get through to the next meal or activity. Instead of giving into that initial craving for something sweet, have a healthy snack on hand like a piece of fruit, some nuts or granola. That will curb your appetite for a sweet until you get home and can have something for a proper meal.
Always eat your healthy food first
Whenever you approach a meal, think carefully about what you are going to put in your mouth. The best course of action is to start with broth-based soup for an appetizer, and then go for the veggies or salad. Once you have filled up on that, you can then indulge your need for proteins and then carbohydrates, but keep in mind that you will be feeling fairly satisfied by now and won’t need to eat as much. Filling up on the good stuff first limits your intake ability as far as eating things that are not as healthy for you. Soon you will start to see results with your weight loss.
Drink a glass of water
If you start getting that urge to eat something sweet, immediately go get a large glass of ice cold water. Drink it and then wait fifteen minutes. The truth is that many times when we think we are hungry or need something sweet, we are actually just thirsty. The body can get its signals mixed up and we think we are hungry, when we really are just a little dehydrated. And drinking sugar rich sodas, coffees, juice and other sweetened beverages, even if they are “sugar-free”, only makes the body more confused. Drinking water flushes out all the bad things in our bodies, makes the body work better and burn more calories.
The next time you get a raging sweet tooth, tame it by following the above tips. In just a short amount of time, you will start seeing weight loss and your sweet tooth will dissipate until all you want to eat are healthy foods.
