Wedding Favors - A Gesture to Say Thank You
So often there are times in our lives when saying a simple thank you does not quite seem to be enough. We often want to give them a toke of our gratitude so they remember how special they are to us. At times we select a food item or perhaps some flowers. The problem with these is that they just don't last forever. When you want to make a statement that will last you need to find something that will make you sentiment memorable. At a wedding the bride and groom will work to find a gift item that will make their special day a lasting memory for all those that shared this event with them.
It had been documented that the wedding favor tradition was started with the aristocrats of Europe and called a 'bonbonniere'. A small decorative gift box that was worth far more than its contents made of precious stones or even crystal. Inside was simply a sweet treat that was nothing more than a sugar cube. It wasn't so much the sugar cube however it was to represent wealth and royalty. Sugar was at a premium and thought to even have healing purposes - however as this sweet substance became more common the same gift was given by those that lived a more modest lifestyle. The upper crust of society then turned to almonds for their wedding favors. The almonds have existed for centuries as a token of thanks, and in the 13th century sugar coated almonds came on the scene. A combination of both of the early gifts and these were actually called 'confetti'. There were five almonds placed in the trinket box or now they used luxurious and decorative fabrics to create a little sack. These five bitter-sweet treats each represented an element in the couple's new life: fertility, wealth, longevity, health and happiness.
Currently we still see couples offering tasty treats as favors. Decorative Wedding favor gift boxes can be filled will a simple truffle, wedding cake, mints, or select from something comical if you prefer. On the other end of the spectrum there is an enormous selection of gift ideas where guests can have a more permanent item that can last in their home for years. Some favors are as simple as a votive candle or coasters in a pattern color or theme that blends in with your wedding event. Other wedding favors can be very specific to you as a couple, in a theme like the beach, music, or even a small picture frame with a photo of the couple as a lasting memory.
