My goal is to talk about Longaberger strictly as a business model letting you know if it is a properly structured opportunity to be successful in.
What You Should Know Before Getting Started

2. Longaberger offers a pre-built web site called a Gold-site for $4.95 per month.
3. As a Longaberger consultant, you must have $300 in sales each quarter to remain active.
4. Longaberger carries a 90 day product return guarantee.
5. There will be no inventory kept by you.
6. Consultants earn 25% commission on sales before tax and shipping.
The Business Model For Longaberger
Longaberger is classified as an MLM opportunity. You are encouraged to prospect your family and friends. Also, it's beneficial for you to attend hotel meetings and you're encouraged to have meetings at your home for the purpose of promoting your opportunity and your products. Now honestly this is an old fashioned way of doing things.
But I heavily advise against the old methods of marketing. Remember, it's known that 97% of people are failing in this industry. The reason is because people are adopting old fashioned marketing strategies that just don't work anymore. And if you think about it, the Longaberger business model is positioning you to use old marketing tactics that are obsolete.
You want to use the effective ways to bring in targeted traffic like utilizing personal branding and attraction marketing. With these strategies you have an opportunity to establish trusting relationships with your prospects. Now using the old methods, you're wasting your time trying to explain what your business is all about. It's pretty much an uncomfortable route to go in if you're not a true sales man. With personal branding, you are offering free resources to solve people's problems. These resources can be in the form of online tutorials, written articles, or inexpensive informational products. If you continually offer free resources that help people solve their problems, then more people will view you as a leader. They will then be attracted to you allowing you to generate customer leads that can lead to money in your pocket with a sale of a big ticket item or money in your pocket with a properly utilized funded proposal system.
The product that you're selling is a low cost high volume item. You honestly need to promote a high end product with a high end commission payout with a direct sales business model that'll get you paid right away. And the Longaberger opportunity is considered an MLM that is selling low cost high volume items. By promoting a high end product with a high end commission you'll be able to make more money with less sales and your business will grow much faster. What makes it hard with the Longaberger business model is that you are competing with many others for the same customer base trying to sell low cost high volume items.
I'd rather someone target a high end more expensive product with high commission payouts because they are catering to a higher caliber of customer. And remember this higher caliber of customer is more educated, better informed, and therefore makes a better potential business partner to maybe even join your team in the future. If you really want to make money in this business, don't make it your main priority to sell items with low commission payouts. You can promote these low commission items in the form of informational products within your funded proposal system. Then you can use your big ticket item in the backend.
There are definite benefits to this MLM opportunity. With an MLM opportunity there is a lot of potential for a big residual income. However, you must be a proven leader or learn to be a proven leader that is able to recruit other people into your business. It is known that around 80% of people on your team will do nothing therefore hurting your chances to make a legitimate residual income. But it's up to you to be a motivator and find other proven leaders below you that know how to recruit properly. Also it's up to you to train people how to become leaders that can eventually form their teams so that you position yourself to make a large residual income. The key is to have a proven system in place that will duplicate success. So if you're a person that has the drive to commit to this type of business structure, even though it's difficult, I welcome you to the challenge. And who said anything in life is easy?
You can see that no matter what business you commit to, you're going to need to learn how to market effectively so that you can eventually become a leader. This is where you will need to find the right coach that has proven marketing methods for success. You can then duplicate their methods to be successful.
Longaberger is by all means a legitimate business selling quality products, but when it comes to their business model for home business owners it falls short of properly teaching the latest effective marketing methods and it falls short in potential earning power if you decide to join.
