Platinum Bullion Coins: Precious History and Heritage
Just almost 30 years ago, the platinum coin was introduced to the world for the first time. Its production ushered in a new era in bullion coin production and has revolutionized the way society appreciates platinum.
The first platinum coin was issued in 1983 by the Isle of Man, a British Crown territory recognized for producing innovative high-quality coins. Aptly named Noble Platinum Bullion Coin, it featured a young Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse and ‘Thusly’, a historic Viking longship in full sail, on the reverse side. Nonetheless, recent findings do show that the Incan and Mayan civilizations had used platinum to create sacred adornments and ceremonial jewelry.
