Bridgestone’s New e Series Golf Balls
Golfer’s today are learning that custom fit golf clubs and lessons are just pieces of the puzzle when trying to lower their scores. They are starting to realize that the golf ball itself can make a large contribution to playing a great round.
Two common mistakes made by amateurs are choosing balls played by their favorite tour player or choosing an inexpensive ball to avoid breaking the bank.
Playing the Pro V1/Nike 1 Tour because Joe Pro PGA plays it can cause the average golf heartache and frustration because the ball may not fit their swing. Swing speed, trajectory, distance are all factors a golfer should consider when choosing a ball.
Price is another factor for Joe Average because losing a $3 ball in a round is acceptable, but losing 6 or 10 balls can make it an expensive day. For the duffer that is constantly looking for errant tee shots, finding the right ball may not only solve some of the frustration but it may save money as well.
Do you slice/hook your shots? A ball with less spin could be the answer. Are you looking for that extra 10-20 yards? A ball with a little extra roll could accomplish that. Need higher/lower ball flight? There’s a ball for that golfer too.
Let’s talk about ball flight. One group of golfers that needs help is those who struggle with hitting their shots too low and need a higher ball flight for added carry. The new e5 golf ball uses its unique 2-piece urethane cover construction to help golfers who want more height in their shot trajectory. For 2010, the e5 incorporates a 326-dimple pattern with shallower and larger dimples, producing a higher trajectory than its predecessor. In addition, the e5 has a large gradational compression core and soft Tour-caliber urethane cover. The result is longer distance off the tee with improved spin control on and around the greens.
The most common trajectory flaws for today’s golfer are slices and hooks caused by excess sidespin. The new e6 golf ball employs a newly enhanced Anti-Side Spin Inner Layer that lowers/stops excess spin for an even straighter and longer flight. The e6 is the most popular model of the e-Series due to its forgiveness on off-center hits and the 2010 version will bring even greater accuracy to help players lower their scores. In addition to the improved anti-spin, Bridgestone has made the softest multi-layer golf ball on the market even softer by lowering compression by 8%. The softer feel is best appreciated by golfer when used for greenside chips/pitches and putting.
For those better players who need a slightly lower trajectory or they already have an ideal trajectory but are seeking longer distance, the new e7 is the ball for them. The e7 benefits from a new proprietary Bridgestone Inner Layer formulation that makes the ball 5% firmer. This new Velocity Increasing Inner Layer is combined with a new higher-speed core to create a more piercing flight resulting in even deeper distance off the tee.
The new e-series balls became available on Nov. 1 and carry a suggested retail price of $38 per dozen although you can find them out there for around $30.
